On behalf of the entire Toms River Police Department Family, we’d like to wish Captain Shaun O’Keeffe a wonderful retirement!

Captain Shaun O’Keeffe : Dates of service January 17, 1996 – March 1, 2021.

Captain Shaun O’Keeffe was raised in West Orange, NJ and graduated from West Orange High School in 1989. His collegiate journey resulted in a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Excelsior College. He is a graduate of the DEA’s Drug Unit Commanders Academy and the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, Class 445. In 1996, he was hired by the Dover Township Police Department and relocated to Toms River. During his career, Captain O’Keeffe served in the Patrol Division, Bicycle Unit, Emergency Services Unit, Field Training Officer program, Ocean County Prosecutors Office Narcotic Strike Force and the TRPD Special Enforcement Team. He also acted as the Delegate for PBA #137. In 2005, Captain O’Keeffe was named the Ocean County Narcotic Officer of the Year and received the Trooper Albert Mallen Southern Narcotics Commanders Memorial Award for Narcotic Officer of the Year. This was the result of his work during two Title III Wiretap cases.

Captain O’Keeffe is honored to have spent the majority of his career in the Detective Bureau where as a Patrolman, Sergeant and Lieutenant he helped develop the growth of the Special Enforcement Team, the Bureau as a whole, and all of the fine men and women who currently occupy it as well as those who have passed through. He is extremely proud of the Detective Bureau that we have collectively created.

Captain O’Keeffe resides in Toms River with his wife Jill of eighteen years and their children Emma, freshman at University of South Carolina, and Shaun, junior at Donovan Catholic. Captain O’Keeffe would like to thank all of his family, friends and coworkers who have supported him during the past twenty-four years.
