On September 20th, 2017 Toms River Police officers traveled to Laurel, Maryland to participate in the Prince George’s County Police Special Operations Division 8th Annual “IronTeam” Endurance Competition. A team of four Toms River Police officers competed against 30 other agencies which included law enforcement, fire fighters, military service members and government agencies.

The Toms River team consisted of Sgt. Gene Bachonski, Ptl. Matthew Broderick, Ptl. Charlie Grainger and retired officer Eric Harris. Officers had to negotiate the first three obstacles wearing a gas mask. Some other challenges included a chain drag, zodiac boat paddle and carry, clean and press, tire flip, water crossing, 5 mile trail run and much more. In the end, Toms River officers placed SECOND (2nd) overall out of 31 teams.

Our officers would also like to thank the Stafford Township officers for providing them with water during the first portion of the race and congratulate them on their first place win; camaraderie at its finest! It was a great day, we are proud of you guys!
