While sad to see Officer DJ Unger retire at last night’s township council meeting, Toms River Police Chief Mitchell Little said he was happy the town approved a new hire so quickly. “This is a bittersweet moment for us. We are sad to see Officer Unger forced to retire so early in his career, but a serious injury he sustained while subduing a violent offender left him with injuries that would no longer allow him to work as a police officer. ” He credited the town approving a new officer so rapidly. “We are very grateful for the council’s fast approval of a new officer.”
We welcome Officer Garret Henshaw to The Toms River Police Department and wish Officer DJ Unger the best in his retirement, he will always be part of our Toms River Police Family.
