The Toms River Township Police Department Public Safety Cadet Unit is part of the national Public Safety Cadet Program. The Cadet program’s mission is to mentor young adults to serve their communities by providing knowledge, skills and practical experiences through education and training delivered by public safety professionals that build character, physical fitness and respect for the rule of law.

Cadets participate in bi-weekly law enforcement training, and volunteer at various Township events. Cadets are eligible to participate in ride-alongs with sworn Toms River Police Officers.

Cadets must be between the ages of 14 and 21. All Cadets must maintain a “C” average or better in all school work through 12th grade.

The Public Safety Cadet Unit is led by a group of unit mentors, who are full-time sworn officers and police dispatchers.  The Cadet Unit is supervised by Lead Mentor Officer Bridgette Badalis.  The program is overseen by Sgt. Ed Mooney.
