On behalf of the entire Toms River Police Department Family, we’d like to wish Lieutenant Dan Sysol a wonderful retirement!

Lieutenant Dan Sysol: Dates of service January 30, 1995 – February 1, 2021

Lieutenant Dan Sysol joined the Toms River Police Department in January of 1995. He completed his undergraduate Degree in Criminal Justice in 1996 from Stockton University and his Masters Degree in Education from Seton Hall University in 2000. He is also a 2012 graduate of the FBI National Academy Class #251. Lieutenant Sysol has over 28 years of service in the military reserves where some of his duties have included: Military Police, AH-1 Cobra Attack Helicopter Pilot and a Special Agent with the US Army Criminal Investigation Command. Lieutenant Sysol served an overseas tour for Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006-2007 as the Special Agent- In- Charge of Balad CID Office, Balad Iraqi and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He was mobilized in 2015 for the US Army Reserves to Protective Services Battalion as the Special Agent In Charge of the Secretary of the Army and Chief of Staff of the Army security detail in Fort Belvoir, VA. He was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer Five in 2016. He is currently the Command Chief Warrant Officer for the 99th Readiness Division Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst.

Throughout his career with the Toms River Police Department, Lieutenant Sysol spent 17 years in the Patrol Division with additional duties to include: Emergency Services Member, Marksman Sniper, Field Training Officer, Color Guard Member, Ice Rescue Officer, Firearms Instructor, Use of Force and Defensive Tactics Instructor. Lieutenant Sysol was promoted to Sergeant in 2012 and was assigned to the Patrol Division on the Midnight Shift. He also served on the executive board as a Trustee for FOP Lodge 156.

Lieutenant Sysol has been a proud resident of Toms River Township since 2002 where he lives with his beautiful wife Yaxy and their two lovely children Brayden and Skylynn. Lieutenant Sysol would like to acknowledge and thank his entire family and friends for all of their love and support throughout his entire law enforcement and military career.
