Welcome to the Toms River Police Department. The 160 sworn men and women of this agency take pride in serving over 90,000 residents as well as the countless visitors who enjoy our waterfront community. The township is spread over 42 square miles and offers opportunities for a diverse population to enjoy preserved open space, cultural events at the Grunin Center for the Arts at Ocean County College, beaches, parks, shopping, and restaurants. Toms River is also home to Community Medical Center and a regional school system that serves 19,000 students.

The Toms River Police Department works closely with the Toms River Regional Schools and our private sector partners to ensure the highest quality of life possible for our residents and visitors. Reduction of crime and traffic crashes through targeted enforcement and community policing is a priority.

The department staffs a School Resource Officer program and utilizes Community Policing officers who patrol on bicycle in the town area as well as along the beach front. The majority of our force makes up the visible face of the agency, the Patrol Division. The department also staffs a Criminal Investigation Bureau which includes a proactive Special Enforcement Unit whose primary mission is to combat the illicit drug trade.

Toms River Police Department follows the model established by DDACTS (Data driven approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety), this allows us to use quantitative data to ensure that we direct our officers to areas of town that are most affected by criminal offenses and traffic concerns in order to have the greatest effect on improving public safety.

We have designed this website to provide you a comprehensive tool to learn about the services provided by the Toms River Police Department and to provide up to the minute information on crime and emergency conditions.
