Sergeant Christopher McDowell was born and raised in Island Heights, NJ. After high school, he attended Mansfield University, and subsequently joined the Marine Corps, serving during Operation Desert Storm. In 1994, Sergeant McDowell attended the Police Academy, and was hired with the Seaside Heights Police Department where he worked from 1994-1997. In 1997, he joined the Shrewsbury Police Department where he served as a full-time police officer until being hired by the Dover Township Police Department in 2001.
During Sergeant McDowell’s career with the Toms River Police Department, he was a member of the department’s Color Guard, Emergency Service Unit (ESU), and Sniper Team. He also proudly served as a Firearms Instructor, Communications Supervisor, and Field Training Officer. Sergeant McDowell spent time in New Orleans assisting first responders from around the nation with the Hurricane Katrina New Orleans Deployment. His incredible artistic talent landed him the role of an Ocean County Composite Sketch Artist for several years. One of Sergeant McDowell’s most rewarding assignments was as a member and supervisor of Afternoon Shift Squad 5.
Sergeant McDowell is grateful to his beautiful wife Anna and three incredible children, Marisa, Christian and Sofia for their never-ending love and support.
